dance-studios-in-edmonton

Shake it off at the best dance studios in Edmonton!

  • Class Variety: The studios we have here offer classes for at least 2 different dance styles. We also factored in whether or not the studio has sessions for dancers of all ages and skill levels.
  • Qualified Instructors and Experience: We included studios with experienced and certified instructors who can provide premier training. Some credentials and certifications we looked into are from NDCC and ISTD.
  • Moreover, only studios with at least 5 years of positive track record made it to our list.
  • Flexible Scheduling: We looked for studios with flexible services, including personalized lesson scheduling, drop-in classes, and online sessions for those who would rather stay home than go out.
  • Positive Atmosphere: We prioritized studios known for their supportive and inclusive environment, offering welcoming spaces for all body types and genders. Studios with community events were also given importance.
  • Reasonable Pricing: We chose studios with competitive pricing, along with options for discounts or package deals that can make expenses more manageable.
  • Performance Opportunities: Extra kudos were given to studios with programs like recitals or competitions, where dancers can showcase their skills.
  • Facilities and Equipment: The facilities and equipment should be as high quality as the classes, so we opted for studios with exceptional flooring, mirrors, and sound systems.
  • Safety Protocols: We made sure that our choices maintain high hygiene and safety standards, especially if they have classes for children or vulnerable individuals.

When Lady Gaga dropped “Just Dance,” it was like she spoke directly to Edmonton’s rhythm-loving soul. Around here, everyone is itching to bust a move—and trust us, our team is no exception.

You can thank Edmonton’s dance studios for that. Not every dance studio is a slam dunk, though. We’ve stepped into a few with crackly speakers, mirrors straight out of the ’90s, and floors that could double as sticky traps.

To spare you the same disappointment, we made the list below—rounding up the top spots.

How much do dance classes cost in Edmonton?

In Edmonton, introductory or drop-in dance classes typically range from $15 to $30. If you choose to purchase class passes, you can expect to pay approximately $168 for an 8-class pass and around $170 for a 10-class pass.

Elite Dance Studio didn’t earn its awards just for show. They’ve been schooling people since 2007, our team included—though we started a little later than most.

Their first strong point is the multilevel class lineup. It’s a mashup of genres like hip-hop, burlesque, country swing, and more.

Seasoned pros, like our coaches Jim and Dominic, also lead the charge. Beyond dancing and teaching skills, they’re personable and very patient.

We also have no issues with the studio’s facility and equipment. The spacious 70′ x 32′ hardwood floor allows for easy movement, the sound system is reliable, and the mirrors provide a clear view.

Elite’s pricing, including drop-in fees, hovers a bit above average though. This is a huge blow to those who can’t fully commit.

The biggest criticisms come from past clients we interviewed. A few didn’t like the classes’ fast tempo and minimal feedback from some instructors.

Pros

  • Offers wedding dances
  • Open for rental
  • Has 2 other branches
  • Diverse class list
  • Welcoming community
  • Cutting-edge facility
  • Offers private classes
  • NDCC accredited teachers
  • Reader’s Choice awardee
  • Experienced coaches

Cons

  • Relatively higher prices
  • Fast-paced tempo
  • Limited feedback from instructors

Their Studio Was Beautiful

“We used Elite Dance Studio for wedding dance lessons and our instructor Jim was fantastic! He was a great teacher and helped us make a beautiful first dance for our wedding. As well, their studio was beautiful and their dance lesson packages were very reasonable! We had a great experience and have found a new hobby that we can do together.”

Solid Technique

“Updated review – Our daughter has been dancing at Elite for almost 9 years. She started in the Kids Beginner Latin & Ballroom. She progressed into the Competitive program and we’ve loved watching her skills grow through group classes, technique classes and private lessons. Her coach, Dominic, has taught her solid technique so that she has the skill and confidence she needs to move up through the competitive levels. Elite will often bring in dance coaches to help fine tune skills. We highly recommend Elite Dance Studio if you’re looking for Ballroom & Latin dance lessons for you or your child!”

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 5:30 pm to 9 pm
  • Sun – 2 pm to 7:30 pm

Website

ETOWN SALSA Latin Dance Studios is among the most talked about dancing hotspots in town. This doesn’t surprise us, as this studio has thrived since 2003; it’s safe to say the classes aren’t just passable.

Speaking of classes, salsa isn’t the only one they’re teaching; expect bachata, mambo, Zumba, and cumbia, all tailored to various skill levels. Just don’t expect any non-Latin dance options here.

Booking a session can also be a headache. The interface is not user-friendly, and the chaotic color scheme makes the info hard to see.

On a more positive note, the studio impresses with its modern and functional design. The spacious layout also helps, especially since the place is often packed.

Most customers also praise the coaches, noting that their instructions were clear. Lastly, they’ll find you a partner in case you didn’t sign up with one. Just make sure to register in advance so they can sort it out ASAP.

Pros

  • Affordable pricing
  • Modern facility
  • Experienced coaches
  • Open for rental
  • Has private classes
  • Inclusive environment
  • Community-focused

Cons

  • Booking difficulty
  • No non-Latin dances

Made the Experience Very Easy

“Finished my salsa level 1 course today. I am very shy and never danced before and I dance stiff like a stone but Alex and Ana are very patient and smart and made the experience very easy. Can’t recommend it enough especially to someone who has social anxiety like me and wants some exposure. it’s very easier than i thought. Not a lot of talking everyone be just counting 123 567. You’ll have a workout and smile and learn to take yourself less seriously.”

One of Edmonton’s Best

“10/10 experience. The staff is friendly, and Alex (the instructor) is great at explaining the dance steps clearly. The people who are apart of the E-Town community are the most down to Earth people you could ever meet. Every class is filled with smiles; Everyone during the classes seem to be happy. Overall, this is definitely one of Edmonton’s best Latin Dance studios, and I highly recommend that you attend a class.”

Operating Hours: Daily – 9 am to 9:30 pm

Foot Notes Dance Studio proudly claims to be a fantastic destination for adult social dancing, and from what we’ve experienced, it delivers.

It’s not just for adult social dancing, though. We occasionally take our kids for quality hip-hop, ballet, and ballroom classes tailored to their age group. Our kiddos always leave exhausted and smiling!

One of our “not-so-coordinated” teammates also mastered his wedding dance here, proving Foot Notes’ effectiveness for those who may not have a natural flair for dancing. His coach, John, showcased remarkable patience, breaking down the steps while still capturing the elegance and romance of the occasion.

However, the constant swapping of partners isn’t our favorite feature. It’s great for meeting new pals, but it can be a letdown for couples or friends wanting to stick together on the dance floor.

Plus, the pricing is steep, although seasonal special deals do make it more manageable.

Pros

  • Community-focused
  • Has classes for kids
  • Expert instructors
  • Offers special deals
  • Open for private classes
  • Diverse class options
  • Open 24/7
  • Seasonal special deals

Cons

  • Relatively high prices
  • Partner rotation system

10/10

“My fiancé and I did four dance lessons with John leading up to our wedding. He was AMAZING! We went in with zero idea how to dance and after four lessons he helped us create a beautiful dance that we feel confident and excited to do as our first dance. He was kind, patient and very easy to get along with! I cant recommend him enough. 10/10 experience!

Thanks again John!!”

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Thu – 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm
  • Sat – 9 am to 4 pm

Marr-Mac Dance sets the bar high for experience, having been around since 1968. What impresses us even more is how their studio remains in pristine condition—no signs of wear and tear here.

Moreover, their quality classes cover multiple styles, even offering unique disciplines like Vaganova ballet. The coaches are also all industry pros with impressive credentials such as RAD ballet and ISTD certifications.

Clients love Marr-Mac’s positive, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere too, hence you’ll see several families and groups here.

However, the limited parking spaces make it tricky for larger vehicles like SUVs to find a spot. The booking page could use some sprucing up as well. It’s text-heavy and the font is too small for some.

Aside from that, we have no significant gripes, particularly regarding the wallet-friendly pricing. Marr-Mac is among the more affordable studios, and the option for monthly payment plans is a plus.

Pros

  • Offers rentals
  • Hosts birthday parties
  • Great studio condition
  • Diverse class offerings
  • Experienced instructors
  • Positive atmosphere
  • Affordable pricing
  • Long-established reputation
  • Unique classes
  • Multiple payment options

Cons

  • Limited parking
  • Booking difficulty

Changing to This Studio Was the Best Decision

“Marr Mac has been a wonderful experience for my daughter! Excellent and supportive coaches, feels like family, value each student whether you are beginner or competitive dancer. My daughter tried many sports and was reluctant to start dance as an early teen…so grateful she did and changing to this studio was the best decision!”

Families seeking a kid-friendly studio with a variety of first-rate classes should definitely consider Lecky School of Dancing.

Many parents we spoke to have kids who’ve been around here for over 5 years, thanks to the well-structured beginner-to-advance programs and noteworthy instructors.

Lecky also offers several recreational classes for the tiniest newcomers. The emphasis on building relationships and having a blast, especially in their musical sessions, is something we appreciate.

Adults can join in on the fun too, but options are somewhat scarce, with jazz and tap classes being the hits. No drop-in classes either.

The pricing and uniform costs might sting a bit, too. On the bright side, multiple packages are available to save some bucks and offer great scheduling flexibility.

Lecky’s inclusion of recitals and competitions is also a definite win for dancers eager to shine or put their skills to the test in a more competitive setting.

Pros

  • Well-structured programs
  • Experienced instructors
  • Recreational options
  • Family-oriented atmosphere
  • Recitals and competitions
  • Long-term student retention
  • Diverse dance styles
  • Flexible class packages

Cons

  • Limited adult classes
  • Pricey uniforms
  • No drop-in classes
  • Higher registration fees

I Was Mesmerized By the Choreograph

“Congrats to Lecky School of Dance performance this weekend in Ft. Saskatchewan. My granddaughter Neve Choma was in the amazing Acro line performance. I am her grandfather and I was mesmerized by the choreography and the impressive work of the dancers.”

We Are Always Impressed

“My daughter has danced here since she was 5 years old and has had nothing but the best experiences. Her teachers have been always knowledgeable and supportive and she has learnt so much from all of them. It is always a positive experience and she has made many amazing friends at Leckys. There is nowhere else she would rather spend her evenings! Front desk staff are amazing and organized and helpful. We are always impressed with the year end concerts at the level of professionalism from all the dancers, teachers and staff. Very happy with our school!”
