The Best Dim Sum Restaurants in Edmonton So Good, Our Steamers Were Piled High!

Dim sum is my go-to when I’m craving a laid-back meal with big flavours and even bigger portions to share. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of watching steamers pile up on the table, knowing each one holds something delicious inside.

Whether it’s juicy xiao long bao, siu mai, soft BBQ pork buns, or egg tart, every bite tastes like comfort.

After trying dim sum all over the city, I’ve found some real gems that deserve a shoutout. If you’re on the hunt for the best local dim sum restaurants, these spots should be at the top of your list!

Jumbo Dim Sum is my go-to spot when I’m craving a Har Gow fix. They’re steamed shrimp dumplings with a tender, translucent wrapper that gives way to a savoury, chewy bite. I usually enjoy them plain, but a quick dip in soy sauce adds a nice touch.

The restaurant’s push-cart system keeps things lively, with a steady flow of freshly steamed and fried treats making their way around the room. It’s always exciting to see what’s coming next!

Pro Tip:

Get 20% off pick-up orders when you spend at least $55 after 3 PM. It’s a great deal if you’re taking dim sum to go!

We stopped by Beijing Beijing for a light afternoon meal and enjoyed a variety of dim sum dishes. Our favourites include stuffed shrimp eggplant, taro root pork dumplings, and steamed pork dumplings. Adding chilli sauce gave them a nice kick.

I also loved seeing the big tank of live lobsters, a sure sign that their seafood dishes are as fresh as they get.

Weekend mornings here are always busy, and tables fill up fast. Arriving early gives you the best chance of getting seated quickly; otherwise, you might have to wait a while.

  • Friday – 11 AM to 9:30 PM
  • Saturday – 10:30 AM to 9 PM

Lucky Kitchen is a great spot for dim sum any time of the day, which is rare since many places only serve it in the mornings or on Sundays. Their menu is in both Chinese and English, with clear pictures of each dish, making ordering much easier.

The rice crepes here had a nice, bouncy texture without being too sticky. Most of the dishes weren’t too oily, and with the restaurant’s relaxed atmosphere, I can see myself coming back again!

Pro Tip:

Beyond dim sum, try Lucky Kitchen’s specialty items. The chop suey, hot pot, and varieties of Foo Young (Chinese omelette) add a unique twist to the menu.

Dim Sum Delight Chinese Cuisine may have old decor (a little bit outdated, to be honest), but the food speaks for itself. Everything we ordered was cooked well and served steaming hot.

The prices are surprisingly affordable, and the portions are big enough for sharing. We picked the best-sellers like ginger beef, sticky rice with lotus leaf, green onion cake, and Imperial shrimp dumplings, and the total was just over $60, plenty for three people!

  • Saturday & Sunday – 10 AM to 8 PM

Emperor’s Palace is right in Chinatown, and it’s a great spot for a proper family-style dim sum feast. Service can be a bit at busy times, but I’ve always had a decent experience, and when the carts are making rounds, the food seems even fresher.

Siu Mai is a must-order for me every time, and it’s a great introduction for anyone new to dim sum. I also recommend the steamed chicken with ginger scallion sauce, a simple yet flavorful dish that’s a staple at any traditional Cantonese meal.

Pro Tip:

Street parking is the only option when you get here, and while it’s free on Sundays, finding a spot can be tricky with the weekend crowd. Plan to arrive early or expect to drive around a bit to snag one.

The service was quick and efficient, with staff regularly clearing plates and refilling drinks. One of the highlights was their cat robot server, which greeted us at the entrance before a waiter led us to our table (it even seemed to smile at me!).

Pro Tip:

For large gatherings, they offer catering packages that include an appetizer, a choice of chicken fried rice or buffet-style chow mein, six entrée selections, and fortune cookies. Pricing starts at $350 for 20 people, with options for larger groups.

Sai Woo Garden has been a staple in Chinatown for decades, and it’s easy to see why. Their selection of Chinese dishes includes fried calamari, steamed fish in soy sauce, spring rolls, and deep-fried wonton, all served hot, full of flavour, and never too oily.

The fried calamari is an absolute must-order because no other place seems to match their secret recipe, and I still can’t get over how crispy and flavorful it is! Finally, no visit feels complete without cracking a fortune cookie at the end of the meal.

It’s best to come with a group to share and try more dishes since portions here are generous.

We went to Golden Rice Bowl for yum cha and ordered shrimp dumplings, siu mai, stuffed tofu, pan-fried shrimp cakes, and cocktail buns. The traditional dim sum carts were constantly rolling by, offering a variety of steamed and fried options.

And did I mention the cocktail buns? I couldn’t recommend them enough for their fresh-baked softness and tasty coconut filling.

Shanghai 456 is often overlooked because it’s tucked away without a bright sign, but it’s worth checking out. They have an extensive menu, so we relied on the server’s recommendations to help us decide.

We opted for their famous steamed soup dumplings, and each bite was a burst of savoury broth and flavorful filling. Plus, the Wor Tip (potstickers) were a standout with their soft, pillowy dough and beef filling instead of the usual pork.

I recently attended a wedding banquet at Tasty Noodle and had a great experience. The venue offers tables that comfortably seat groups of 2 to 10, making it ideal for our event, and the free parking added to the convenience.

I made sure to try everything on the banquet menu, and the prawn dumplings, sticky rice, and chicken feet stood out the most for me. Meanwhile, the deep-fried crab balls became a crowd favourite for their sweet, briny flavour with a hint of herbs and spices.

Yummy Kitchen is a small spot, but the portions are big and bold. What makes them great, despite the limited space, is their quick service. Our order was ready in just 15 minutes instead of the expected 30.

One of the best dishes I’ve had in a while is their shrimp balls, which had a crispy golden shell with a juicy, well-seasoned filling. I also appreciated the vegetarian options, like the vegetable spring rolls, which were light but flavorful.
