The 5 Best Community Centers in Edmonton Bringing Edmontonians Closer
Community centers have always been a big part of my life. I used to drop by one after work for a badminton game.
I’ve seen how they bring people together in different ways. Seniors find companionship, kids pick up new hobbies, and neighbors get to know each other.
Some centers focus on recreation, while others provide educational programs or cultural activities. Here’s a look at some of the best community centers in Edmonton and what makes them worth visiting!
How much do community center membership and rentals cost in Edmonton?
Community center memberships in Edmonton start at $20. Basic community hall rentals begin at $30 per hour, with potential discounts for community league members or longer-term bookings.
Rates vary based on the facility, time of day, and amenities included, so checking with the specific center is recommended.
Calder Community League

Address: 12721 120 St NW

The Calder Community League is a hub for community engagement in northwest Edmonton, offering event rentals, social gatherings, and recreational activities. They host various events, maintain an outdoor rink, and provide a large hall for private functions.
They organize social events to bring the community together, including seniors’ socials with food and live music. Plus, they keep the community updated through their newsletter and Facebook page.
The rental hall is spacious and well-equipped, ideal for weddings, birthdays, and other celebrations, with prices starting at $125 per hour or $1,500 for a full weekend package. It includes a kitchen, a separate bar area, and an elevated stage.
I signed up for the $20 annual membership to get access to free skating, discounts on hall rentals, and recreation center perks. It was worth it, especially with the free swim access and other community benefits that made it easy to stay active.
Every winter, I take advantage of their outdoor rink. I like how they prioritize safety, closing the rink when temperature drops below -20°C or after heavy snowfall until volunteers clear the ice.
They also run a “Shop and Help” program through TGP Wholesale Market, where 5% of purchases go back to the league. It’s a simple way to support community initiatives while shopping for groceries.
One of my favorite past events here was the Pancake Breakfast, which featured affordable food, a kids’ craft station, and a special guest appearance. It was a great way to meet neighbors and experience the strong sense of community they foster.
Unfortunately, there’s no gymnasium, so indoor sports like basketball or volleyball aren’t an option. Additionally, they do not have workout facilities, so those looking for a fitness center will need to visit a separate location.
Great community hub
“I just started going here over the winter and its awesome. Honestly ive only been there to go skating but the people that work/volunteer there are amazing!! I know that they rent out the hall for private or public events. They have a community garden. I just Love this place.”

However, the facility does not host social events or offer volunteer opportunities. While it excels in fitness and recreation, those seeking community engagement may need to explore other facilities in the city.
Fantastic gym and rec facility
“Excellent facility. It may not be as big as some of the other new rec centres, but the amenities are excellent. It has never been busy at the times I have visited, although during the school year you will find that the students of the attached school do make use of the facility as well — during gym class, in spares, during lunch, etc.
I’ve only made use of the gymnasium, having visited there on numerous occasions to play basketball. I usually take my own basketball, but there is almost always a rack full of basketballs that can be borrowed. There is a good amount of natural light thanks to the windows on two of the four walls of the gym. It makes a nice difference and is unique as far as gyms go.
The locker room is large and clean, and there are several bathrooms that are also kept clean.
I have taken a tour of the gym upstairs and done a lap on the track upstairs as well as and both were good quality and not busy. I’ve never seen this site busy.
The staff are friendly and helpful, and it’s easily my favorite gymnasium. The entrance is strangely nondescript, though. The first time I visited I was headed towards the school entrance until someone corrected me.”

Great venue and helpful staff
“Leefield community hall was a great venue for our event. They have a wonderful staff who are very accommodating and helpful and make the rental process smooth.
The venue has a great sound system and new projector / screen that is top notch. It has a good size coat room, main hall area and kitchen. Washrooms just off the main hall are easily accessible. There is also a large outdoor patio off the back that is totally fenced in which was a big plus when the hall gets warm (no A/C at the time of our rental) but lots of fans and circulation made it tolerable.
Overall it was a very affordable and positive experience and would use them again :)”

Welcoming space with great facilities
“We came here to go to Capital City Baptist Church in Edmonton. They have ample parking, nice clean building, plenty of rooms for all your needs.
CCBC is a great place, and I highly encourage anyone that’s looking for a wonderful church to come and join them.”
