I’ve enjoyed walking through the enchanting forest filled with stunning sculptures and lively music. The hands-on activities create a warm atmosphere that connects visitors to diverse cultures: you can try on snowshoes and share bannock (bread) by the fire!

Pro Tips:

Bring cash for vendors who may not accept cards, ensuring you can purchase souvenirs or crafts.

Respect the festival’s theme and traditions by engaging with the cultural teachings and heritage presentations.

Silver Skate Festival

Edmonton Craft Beer Festival

I always enjoy the diverse range of drinks on offer, especially the crisp apple ciders and the meads with a subtle honey sweetness. The food stands out too—like the smoky pulled pork sliders that pair perfectly with a hoppy IPA.

Since Edmonton Beerfest is a sampling event for ages 18 and older, don’t forget to bring a government-issued ID to gain entry.

I’ve seen the excitement on kids’ faces as they join in, making it a joyful and inspiring experience for all. I still remember watching a puppet show with a crowd of mesmerised children, each one completely drawn into the performance.

Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes, as you’ll likely be walking and standing for extended periods. 

It’s easy to get overwhelmed with so many activities and performances. Schedule breaks to relax and recharge in the shaded areas or designated picnic spots.

UFest Edmonton Ukrainian Festival

UFest is a lively celebration of Ukrainian culture, featuring food, music, dance, and arts over two days in a lovely city park. With continuous performances on two stages, beer gardens, cultural workshops, and a kids’ zone, there’s plenty to enjoy.

I particularly enjoyed the energy of the live performances. One standout moment was watching a traditional dance that truly captured the spirit of the festival.

Don’t miss the zabava (meaning “amusement”) after the main stage performances. The fun continues under the stars with free live music!

Visit the Workshops and Demonstrations tent for hands-on activities and the chance to learn a new skill while creating something special. Be sure to sign up early and prepay at the workshop tent, as spots fill up quickly!

TD Edmonton International Jazz Festival

The TD Edmonton International Jazz Festival started in 2005 as the Yardbird Jazz Festival, focusing on the local jazz scene and offering workshops for young musicians. It has since grown into a major event that features both international and local artists.

Also take part in the Jazzworks Non-Competitive Band Festival every March, as it’s a great way to gear up for the TD Edmonton International Jazz Festival. It features engaging musical clinics and performances. It’s a great chance to connect with fellow jazz enthusiasts!

KDays

KDays is a lively summer event in Edmonton, bringing together rides, games, music, and food for all ages. Originally known as the Edmonton Exhibition, it has evolved over 130 years to celebrate both local heritage and modern innovations.

Be sure to check out the expanded kids’ programming from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM for fun activities. Arrive early to enjoy these sessions before the main shows begin at 11:30 AM.

A Taste of Edmonton

Taste of Edmonton is Western Canada’s largest food festival, featuring over 170 dishes from more than 50 local restaurants and food trucks. With live music from afternoon to evening and tickets available at booths for 2 to 5 tickets per dish, there’s plenty to enjoy.

I love the lively atmosphere at the festival. You can explore local artisan goods at THE MARKET and join bike tours. I also enjoyed the Night of Artists, which offers a chance to appreciate beautiful creations.

Pro Tips:

Grab your food tickets early to avoid long queues, especially between 5 PM and 7 PM (the peak hours). 

Be sure to buy your 50/50 tickets early in the day for a better chance of winning and to contribute to the Taste of Edmonton Community Endowment Fund.

Edmonton Fringe Festival

I’ve seen first-hand how this festival brings together more than 550,000 attendees alongside artists and over 1,000 dedicated volunteers. One memorable moment was watching the Jambo Brothers whose acrobatics captivated the audience.

Stop by Fringe Grounds Café for a relaxing break and support the Brew It Forward programme, which provides free warm drinks to those in need. While you’re there, explore the Book Nook or enjoy a board game to wind down between shows.

Cariwest Caribbean Arts Festival

Cariwest The Caribbean Arts Festival brings vibrant Caribbean culture to Edmonton with three days of entertainment, delicious food and unique handmade crafts. Churchill Square buzzes with life, showcasing the rich arts and traditions of the Caribbean.

One of the highlights is the lively parade where performers dance in colourful costumes to calypso music. I also enjoyed tasty food at the Caribbean Village.

Pro Tips:

Join the Kids Korner if you’re bringing children. It offers games and fun activities for families.

Take public transport, as parking can be challenging around Churchill Square during the festival.

Alberta International Airshow

The Alberta International Airshow offers a blend of aerial excitement and family-friendly activities. I’ve enjoyed watching thrilling displays of acrobatics from jets and historic aircraft while getting a close look at real planes from various eras.

There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained, from delicious food trucks to the Kids’ Zone filled with games and bouncy castles. I still remember how much fun it was to see the kids laughing and playing, making it a great day out for the whole family. 

Pro Tips:

Be prepared for hot sun or sudden changes in temperature, especially since the airshow is outdoors. A hat and layers can help you stay comfortable.

Bring sun cream, ear protection, sunglasses, and lawn chairs for comfort. The sun and noise can be intense, especially during the afternoon shows.

Edmonton Heritage Festival

It’s an alcohol-free, family-friendly festival where you can chat with locals who share their traditions. Some of my highlights were trying spicy Fijian curry and watching traditional African drumming. It felt like travelling the world in a single afternoon!

Consider volunteering at this festival for a unique, behind-the-scenes experience. It’s a great way to connect with new people, learn new skills, and be part of the cultural celebration.

Edmonton International Film Festival

The Edmonton International Film Festival offers a diverse mix of over 150 films from around the world, ranging from shorts to feature-length, dramatic to documentary. The atmosphere is buzzing with filmmaker talks, gala screenings, and local talent spotlights.

I’ve attended a few screenings myself and enjoyed the Lunchbox Shorts where you can catch curated short films while grabbing lunch. It’s a great way to dive into the world of indie films, and the chance to see Oscar-qualifying shorts adds to the excitement.

Pro Tip:

If you’re only planning to see a few films, grab the 6-Pack to save on regular-priced screenings. For full access, the All-Access Pass is your best bet, but be sure to book early before tickets run out!

Farmfair International

Farmfair International offers a chance to connect with the agricultural community while exploring Alberta’s largest beef cattle show. From cattle competitions to interactive clinics, the event is full of Western-style entertainment and learning opportunities.

I’ve enjoyed watching the purebred cattle shows and learning from industry experts in the workshops. There’s plenty to experience, from AgTech innovations to the Farmfair concert, and even a packed lunch featuring Alberta beef.
