The Best Horseback Riding Spots in Edmonton for Scenic Rides into the Sunset
At Sunny Edmonton, we don’t hold our horses. Why? Well, when we’re trotting through one of the city’s picturesque horseback riding spots, life’s blues tend to fade—replaced by wide-open landscapes and fresh air.
Think we’re just horsing around? You clearly haven’t felt the magic of riding a majestic mare (or pony) through countryside hills or riverside pathways.
Don’t worry though; our favorite spots below might just sway you. To sweeten the deal, we included some clever hacks to save you cash—or at least keep you from taking an unscheduled mud bath.
Whitemud Equine Learning Center Association
– From calli.skagen
Address: 12504 Fox Dr. NW
Operating Hours: Daily – 6 am to 6:30 pm
We can’t talk about horseback riding without giving a nod to the Whitemud Equine Learning Center Association (WELCA). They have programs for all skill levels, alongside unmounted experiences that give urbanites a hands-on peek into stable life.
The intro lessons are a major hit, allowing first-timers to get comfortable on horseback and learn the essentials, like mountain and steering. And with the sweeping greenery and the North Saskatchewan River around, your ride will be Insta-worthy.
Tip: Whitemud provides boarding options for horses. |
Putting Horse Ranch

Contact Details: (780) 962-5232
Operating Hours: Daily – 9 am to 9 pm
Don’t wander into Putting Horse Ranch if you’re a huge golf and horseback riding buff; you might not want to leave. On our summer jaunt, for instance, we lost track of time (and a few dollars) trotting and galloping along well-kept fairways and clear ponds.
Winter (winter in edmonton) visitors, on the other hand, will find their own slice of respite with $35 horse-drawn sleigh rides gliding over snowy fields.
The cherry on top? Little ones aged 2 and under ride free as long as they’re cozying up on a parent or guardian’s lap.
Tip: You can throw a private party here. |

To sweeten the deal, group lessons allow you to bring your pals along for some flatwork or jumping practice. But if a more intimate experience sounds tempting, private sessions are available, though your wallet will take a bit of a hit for that luxury.
