7 Best Bowling Alleys in Edmonton for Disco Nights, Duckpins & Loads of Fun!

Bowling is a favourite pastime for my friends and me. The city has changed a lot over the years—some bowling spots have come and gone—but the fun has always stayed the same whenever we plan our next bowling night.

If you’re looking for a fun outing with friends, here are the best bowling alleys in Edmonton that I highly recommend!

Having been around since 1959, Plaza Bowling Co. is one of the oldest and most beloved bowling alleys in the city. Its affordable rates and friendly service make it a must-visit for anyone looking for a classic bowling experience in the city.

I’ve got a soft spot for its nostalgic charm, and it’s always my go-to when I want to have a fun, casual night out! They’ve got 16 lanes for 10 and 5-pin bowling as well as three different types of game types to choose from.

Tips:

Walk-ins are not allowed in the bowling alley. You need to pre-book your lanes at least a day in advance either via phone or email if you’re dropping by with a large group.

The best time to visit is on weekday afternoons before 5:00 pm because the bowling alley offers discounted rates. Rates go as low as $37 per hour instead of the regular $44 per hour!

Sunday, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm

Fees:

Website

One of the reasons why I highly recommend Bronx Bowl is that they offer affordable rates per hour. Their lane bookings are super flexible, letting you pay by the hour or stretch your booking with an extra 15 or 30 minutes.

Moreover, their game types are pretty fun and are suitable for all ages. I personally love playing the classic games, but the other themed leagues are also pretty fun and challenging!

Tips:

The bowling alley is a go-to for parties. Packages are inclusive of setup and cleanup, so you don’t have to worry much about the organising.

Just pay for the number of hours and lanes you’ll need to accommodate your guests, and the staff will handle the rest. Learn more about it here.

The best time to visit the bowling alley is on weekdays. Weekends are usually packed with players, so you might have better luck getting a lane on a weekday afternoon.

Saturday, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm

Sunday, 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Fees:

Lane rental: Starts at $7.25 per game or $25 per person for 2 hours

Shoe rental: $3 per person

Website

When it comes to aesthetics, K-J Bowl is one of my top picks. The retro lanes have a nostalgic charm, but what really sets it apart is the colourful strobe lights that turn the alley into a disco.

You have the option to do Glow Bowling or Open Bowling. The main difference is that the former features neon strobe lights and upbeat music while the latter features the same bowling alley but without the disco-like ambience.

Both are still great and fun options for bowling though!

Tips:

If you go on a Sunday, you can enjoy their Sunday Special games wherein rates are cut down to just $6.75 per game!

If you’re booking the bowling alley for a party, you’ll need to secure a $50 deposit to reserve your slot. Advance reservations are strictly required due to the high demand for their bowling lanes, especially on weekends. Learn more about their party packages here

The Banquet

Address: 10332 103 St NW #210

Contact Details: +1 587 686 7220

Operating Hours:

Monday to Friday, 11:30 am to 2:00 am

Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 am to 2:00 am

Fees:

Lane rental: Starts at $39.99 per hour, per lane, $2 per hour, per lane on Sundays

Shoe rental: $5 per person

Website

The Banquet isn’t exclusively a bowling alley, but this swanky bar offers guests the opportunity to keep themselves occupied in some bowling fun while they chow on bar bites and cocktails.

They have a duck-pin bowling alley that features 10-pin lanes. They’re not the cheapest option in the city, but they have the most vibrant atmosphere and vibes in my honest opinion!

Tips:

Every Monday, the bar opens its bowling alley for walks-ins only. Rates start at $2 per lane, per hour, which is a huge steal! The catch is that so many people drop by for this promo, so I highly recommend dropping by early in the day to get first dibs on a lane.

Note that the bar isn’t wheelchair friendly, so if you’re visiting with someone who requires wheelchair assistance, consider finding another place. There are no ramps that lead up to the bowling section of the bar.

Shoe rental: $2.99 per person

Website

Bonnie Doon Bowling Lanes have been a favourite in my family for years. My parents, regulars at the alley, still bowl with their close friends, reliving past memories and making new ones.

What sets this place apart is its twist on the classic game. From 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm, the lanes transform into a neon-lit spectacle, adding a vibrant, modern touch to the experience.

As the lights dim, the lanes glow with vibrant colours, creating a dreamlike atmosphere that blends nostalgia with a modern twist—a must-visit for anyone seeking a fresh, lively take on bowling. Plus, the oldies love it!

Tips:

Strictly no walk-ins allowed. You have to call the alley in order to book a lane here.

The neon bowling is only available on Saturdays. Make sure to plan your visit accordingly if you want to book this experience!

The bowling alley offers assistance for children with special needs! You’ll need to inform the staff ahead of time regarding any special requests and they’ll do their best to accommodate you.

Ed’s Bowling

Address: 8882 170 St NW #2556, West Edmonton Mall

Contact Details: +1 780 481 6420

Operating Hours: Monday to Sunday, 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm

Fees:

Lane rental: Starts at $60 per hour, per lane from Monday to Thursday and $75 per hour, per lane from Friday to Sunday

Shoe rental: $5 per person

Website

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, the lanes at Ed’s Bowling are perfect for everyone. For first-timers like my niece, bumpers are a lifesaver, helping her enjoy the game without gutter balls.

All the synthetic lanes are fitted with lights and an electronic system that makes setting up teams, scoring, and resetting pins more efficient. It’s not the biggest alley in the city, but it’s a good place to get a good feel of the sport for the first time!

Tips:

The bowling alley is usually fully booked on weekends or weekday evenings, so I highly recommend calling the staff to ensure a slot.

Note that while the alley is open until 11:00 pm, the servers and snack bar closes at 5:30 pm. Make sure to get your orders in right on time! Beyond the last call, the alley will serve mainly alcohol at the bar.

SPEEDERS

Media from speedersedmonton

Address: 12808 170 St NW Unit 16

Contact Details: +1 780 451 4377

Operating Hours:

Monday to Thursday, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm

Friday to Saturday, 11:00 am to 12:00 am

Sunday, 11:00 am to 10:00 pm

Fees: Lane rental: $30 per lane per 30 minutes, $50 per lane, per hour

Website

When I think of SPEEDERS, go-kart racing always comes to mind, but their bowling alley has quickly won me over. It’s got six lanes of duckpin bowling, with smaller, lighter balls and shorter lanes that make the game easier and just as fun.

The space is massive too. You can easily invite nearly 40 people if you’re planning a bowling party.

One of the coolest features is the huge TV screens above each lane, so you can keep up with the game while your team takes down pins. Honestly, this would be my top pick for hosting a bachelor party. It’s the perfect mix of fun and action!

Tip:

Make your reservations on the website or via phone at least a day in advance to ensure a slot. The place gets fully booked easily, especially on weekend evenings!
