Tips for Beginners in Clay Pigeon Shooting

1. Basic techniques

  • Stance: Keep your feet shoulder-width apart with your weight slightly forward.
  • Grip: Hold the shotgun firmly but not too tight; focus on steady control.
  • Aiming: Keep both eyes open and follow the target smoothly with your barrel.

2. Choosing the right shotgun

  • Start with a lightweight, over-and-under shotgun with a 12 or 20-gauge.
  • Ensure the shotgun fits your body. Proper length of pull and stock height matter.

3. Practice mounting your shotgun consistently for faster alignment.

4. Stay relaxed and focused. Don’t overthink misses. Every shot is a learning step.

5. Build confidence with stationary targets before progressing to moving clays.
