Outdoor pools in Insta-worthy locales, indoor pools within premier complexes, a wavy waterpark hiding in North America’s biggest shopping mall—yeah, our city has it all.

Our top picks below ensure a swim that could count as a family vacation!

Honestly, we’ve lost track of how many times we’ve been to The Meadows Community Recreation Center. With a state-of-the-art saltwater leisure pool and a 25-meter pool with 10 lanes, diving and swimming here is a no-brainer.

A 1-meter and 3-meter springboard also crank up the fun, while the water stays at 29°C (84°F), which is “warm” by Edmonton standards. To top it off, our kiddos (any kid, to be real) can’t get enough of the whirlpool feature and the epic water slide!

Tip:

Don’t just stick to swimming; try their other fitness programs.

The perks keep stacking with their steam room—less crowded than most spots on this list and accessible for all abilities. There’s also a hot tub waiting for you, perfect for unwinding and replenishing after grinding out those long laps.

World Water Park boasts the world’s largest indoor wave pool; swimming here is an Edmonton classic. That said, this spot isn’t ideal for longer lap swimming. The water is a bit shallow, and it brims with tourists and locals.

But if you’re just after wild waterslides, wavy experiences, and snacks galore, this is the venue to hit. You can even go big by renting a tropical cabana or luxe lounge, a move most families and crews make!

Tip:

Hone your mermaid or merman skills by joining one of their classes.

Jamie Platz Family YMCA has been a go-to spot since 1844. Inside, there are 2 pools to pick from: the main one for chill swims or serious laps, and a smaller one for developing your strokes and paddles

There’s more than just the pools too. The place has loads of family-friendly sections and activities like a sports gymnasium, and Aquafit classes for groups or pairs—babies included!

Opt for the family pass for a cheaper entry. You’ll only have to pay 17 bucks for a group of 2 adults and 4 kiddos.

In addition, there’s a 25-meter pool designed with gradual depth progression and a waterslide that lands into a deeper zone. Crews with rookies don’t have to frown though; a shallow water area awaits, made more kid-friendly by zany pool toys.

Consider heading here during less hectic periods, like weekdays and early mornings.

Jasper Place Leisure Center

From natashaevenson

Address: 9200 163 St NW

Contact Details: +1 780-496-1411

Operating Hours: Daily – 7 am to 7 pm

Website

Though not the biggest, Jasper Place Leisure Center still manages to reel in plenty of swimmers, including our teammates. We’re fans of the blissfully quiet lanes—a major win given the pool’s modest 23-meter size.

Pool toys, diving boards, and a steam room add to the appeal; however, the changing rooms could definitely use some TLC. The hot tub is also more lukewarm than hot, but this is better than treading water with screaming kids in every direction.

Tip:

Don’t forget your babies. They have an infant-friendly pool here with warm water.

  • Sun – 8 am to 4 pm

Website

If it were up to us, Don Wheaton Family YMCA would easily get awards for being squeaky clean. We might even throw in some extra medals for the pleasing all-white walls where sunshine slips.

The pools are also superb; there’s 1 for lane swimming and another for younger swimmers looking to practice. Major props to the changing rooms too, as on our 3 visits, they were never cramped.

Drivers can enter the 102 St and 102 Ave underground parking lot.

Furthermore, the 40-swimmer cap keeps things peaceful, and private sessions can be booked with a week’s notice. Just a heads up: if you think cold water is a buzzkill, this might not be the one for you.

Tip:

Check the forecast before packing your swimsuit. If the temperature drops to 18 °C (64.4 °F) or there are weather disturbances, the pool will be closed.

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 5:30 am to 10 pm
  • Sat – 7 am to 9 pm
  • Sun – 7 am to 8 pm

Website

An Edmonton top swimming pool list that overlooks Mill Woods Recreation Center is a summer BBQ without burgers—just plain wrong. Seriously, you won’t want to miss this spot’s 45-meter wave pool that makes the shorter ones look like kiddie pools.

The two waterslides and dive boards are no joke either; they’ll plunge you right into the pool’s depths. If that sounds a bit intimidating though, you can always retreat to the warm teaching pool or sauna. There’s no shame in just loosening up!

Tip:

Swing by the gym before or after your swim. It’s one of the least crowded gyms in the city.

Commonwealth Community Recreation Center

From blacktransadebayo1

Contact Details: +1 780-442-5311

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 6 am to 10 pm
  • Sat to Sun – 7 am to 9 pm

Website

We won’t sugarcoat: Commonwealth Community Recreation Center can get crowded (and some dryers are on the fritz), but its “completeness” overshadows any drawbacks. There are lots of things to love, like the 4-lane saltwater pool and aquatic climbing walls.

For those looking to simply kick back, the leisure pool is zen-inducing. Its cozy 31°C (87.8°F) temperature will keep you from shivering, and the spray features are ideal for zoning out.

Tip:

The parking lot is small, so we strongly suggest visiting during non-peak hours like early morning, early afternoon, and late evening to secure a spot.

Kinsmen Sports Center

From lsanderstri

Address: 9100 Walterdale Hill

Contact Details: +1 780-442-5311

Operating Hours:

  • Mon to Fri – 5:30 am to 10:30 pm
  • Sat – 6:30 am to 10 pm
  • Sun – 7 am to 10 pm

Website

The previous entry may go big, but Kinsmen Sports Center goes even bigger. How big? Well, this facility flexes a 50-meter competition pool with 10 lanes, a 50-meter training pool with 6 lanes, and a deep tank with a max 4.9-meter depth.

Platforms here also reach more impressive heights, specifically around 3 to 10 meters. Booking can be a headache though, since it’s almost always full.

Tip:

Numerous swimming competitions take place here. Learn the schedule by calling or checking their website.

Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool

From markiemoose

Address: 9170 Walterdale Hill NW

Contact Details: +1 780-442-5311

Operating Hours: Daily – 11 am to 7 pm

Website

Queen Elizabeth Outdoor Pool is a lifesaver for those who couldn’t snag a spot at Kinsmen Sports Center (they’re just a few meters away).

The pool’s 29°C (84.2°F) temperature is right on the money, and with a 25-meter length, it’s great for doing laps—assuming it’s not cluttered, which it usually is.

Tips:

For a more exclusive experience, picking up the phone is your best bet. Aim for those sweet early morning slots starting at 6 a.m. or take advantage of the late-night hours.

Keep in mind that opened containers are not allowed. The silver lining is that you can bring your own snacks and non-alcoholic bev as long as they’re properly sealed.

Contact Details: +1 780-442-5311

Operating Hours: Daily – 5:30 am to 10 pm

Website

When one of our teammates mentioned Clareview Community Recreation Center, there was zero debate—mainly due to its lazy river feature. It’s warm, spacious, and filled with interactive water sprays and fountains that are always a hit among our kids.

In addition, there are plenty of lifeguards on duty, likely because this center is a total hotspot for kiddos. And if you’re not in the mood to swim and want to avoid leg aches, you’ll find several poolside seats to relax.

Most of our friends rave about the swimming lessons at Hardisty Fitness and Leisure Center, which are undeniably remarkable. However, it’s the intimate atmosphere and lack of overpopulated waters that make this spot a standout.

The 25-meter pool is another highlight, maintaining a clean and spacious environment that’s always balanced—not too cold or hot, as all pools should be.
